Hamilton collects food scraps weekly, and rubbish (red lid) and recycling (yellow lid) on alternate weeks. The glass crate goes out in the same week as the yellow bin. Enter your address on the council's Fight the Landfill page (hamilton.govt.nz/fight-the-landfill) to see the next two weeks of collections, or get reminders in the Antenno app. Put bins out after 5pm the night before and by 7am on collection day.

Yellow bin: plastics 1, 2 and 5 (lids off), clean cans and tins, paper and cardboard. No soft plastics, lids, aerosols, foil or takeaway cups. Lids and broken glass go in the red bin. Never put lithium batteries (including vapes) or chemicals in any bin. Take large items to the Lincoln Street Resource Recovery Centre (60 Lincoln Street, Frankton) — general waste is charged, but clean appliances, e-waste, batteries, household hazardous waste such as paint, and recycling are free. Garden waste goes to the Hamilton Organic Centre (18 Wickham Street, Frankton, charged).
