What is an open home?

The property is open for a set time (usually 15–30 minutes) so anyone can view it. Some listings are "viewing by appointment" — contact them first.

Bring

Photo ID, your contact details, and the details you'll need for the application (references, employment and income).

Check

Damp and mould, heating and insulation (since 1 July 2025 all rentals must meet the Healthy Homes standards), ventilation, water pressure, parking, rubbish day, internet, school zone and transport.

Money

Bond is capped at four weeks' rent and must be lodged with Tenancy Services within 23 working days — keep the confirmation email with your bond number. A pet bond of up to two weeks' rent may also apply. Rent in advance is capped at two weeks. Letting fees and key money are banned; an option fee of up to one week's rent is allowed but must be refunded or counted as rent if you move in. Never pay before you have seen the property and signed a tenancy agreement.
